QPR got three vital points in their fight against relegation with a 1-0 victory over Champions League contenders Tottenham Hotspur, who continue their bad run of form.
QPR had the better of the early exchanges, with Adel Taarabt going on a mazy run but failed to provide the finish. The Moroccan then opened the scoring on 23 minutes with a brilliant free-kick from 25 yards. Tottenham then came close, with a stinging shot by Rafael Van Der Vaart being kept out, while Jermain Defoe’s follow-up went onto the roof of the net.
The second half saw neither side dominate, with Bobby Zamora wasting a good chance for the home side, while Tottenham had the majority of the possession but failed to create chances. Adel Taarabt got controversially sent-off after 75 minutes after kicking the ball away to get a second yellow. Tottenham dominated at-the-end but failed to create any clear-cut chances, with a long range effort from Luka Modric being the closest they came to an equaliser. QPR even came close themselves by going on the break a few times, but Zamora proved wasteful again.
When the final whistle went at Loftus Road, there was a sense of both relief and joy. QPR are now three points above the relegation zone, while Tottenham have dropped out of the Champions League places.
